Smaradina guitar (Wild Betta)

The Betta smaragdina "Guitar" is a stunning wild-type betta line prized for its dark body overlaid with brilliant blue and turquoise metallic scaling that catches the light like polished stone. A member of the Betta splendens complex from the Isan region of Thailand and Laos, this "Guitar" form retains the sleek, natural body shape and understated elegance of a wild betta while showing off intense blue-green iridescence, especially when a male flares. Hardier and more even-tempered than fancy show bettas, it appeals to keepers who appreciate wild-type character and natural beauty over exaggerated finnage.

Males are less aggressive than Betta splendens, but will still display and spar, so provide sightline breaks and cover. Wild-type bettas can be kept as pairs or even carefully managed small groups in larger, densely planted setups.
